Family Visit

By far the biggest challenge of our lives right now is being long-distance parents and grandparents. Technology has made it a little easier because we can talk with our kids on Skype and even watch our adorable little grandson learn new milestones. Being an ocean away from each other keeps us from spending most of our holidays together, however, and makes it impossible to give the hugs and kisses that we long to give to each other.

You can imagine our overwhelming joy, then, when our daughter, Sarah, and her family were recently able to visit us for a couple of weeks. The days were filled with talking, laughter, and fun, especially as we put in as much grandparenting time as we could with our little Levi.

One of the highlights of our time together was making a trip back to the village where Sarah spent her earliest years. It was very nostalgic for us to re-visit our memories, and a lot of fun to see Levi follow the village kids and chickens around and enthusiastically eat African food just like his mother did many years ago!

We have been hoping and praying for an opportunity to have our son-in-law and daughter-in-law come and see where their spouses grew up. Jordan has now been here and hopefully Jodi and Daniel will be able to come soon!

We are grateful that Elizabeth has been able to spend the entire summer with us. She got paid to teach at an English camp for the month of July and earned some additional funds making and decorating cakes. She has also done a weekly Bible study for young girls in our church.

Soon we will be back to our empty next as Elizabeth heads to Nyack for grad school, but we are so grateful for a chance to spend time with our kids and grandson this summer!
