Back to School

I have now been back at the International School of Ouagadougou in my role as librarian for a few weeks and am beginning to settle into a routine. I love interacting with all the children who come through the doors of the library each day. This year we have over 230 students from 36 different countries. Talk about diversity! ISO certainly is a fun place to be.

School will be starting in the very near future here in Burkina as well. In preparation for that, the Alliance of Christian Schools of Burkina is holding their annual conference. I have been serving on the committee of this movement since its beginning a few years ago and it's a joy to see what God is doing! Our speakers this year came from South Africa, France, and Mali. Each one has inspired the participants as they've shared about the new thing God is doing on the African continent. It's very thrilling to see educators understand for the first time what a Christian education truly looks like. There have been many cheers, times of applause, and lots of "Amen's"!

We enthusiastically believe in the potential that education has to reach young people with the Good News here in Burkina. Worldview transformation is so important in places where an animistic worldview still permeates the Church, and this can best take place in Christian schools.

Our daughter, Elizabeth, has gone back to school as well. She is in her first week of classes at grad school in Nyack, New York. Our other daughter, Sarah, is a teacher and does private tutoring. So, as you can see, school is very much on our minds these days - in our family and in our ministry. May it be a great year for all students and teachers, to the glory of God!
